Navajo Lutheran Mission June 2009 Installation: Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard, Rev. Deborah Haffner Hubbard

Navajo Lutheran Mission June 2009 Installation: Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard, Rev. Deborah Haffner Hubbard

(Rock Point, Arizona) - The first of several videos on the Installation of Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard and Rev. Deborah Haffner Hubbard at the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission (NELM) in Rock Point, Arizona by Bishop Steve Talmage of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Grand Canyon Synod.

Bishop Steve Talmage presides over the Installation Service on June 7, 2009 in the Navajo Lutheran Mission House of Prayer Lutheran Church.

The Hubbards arrived at the mission in the spring of 2009 after leaving their respective churches in northern Michigan.
Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard is the Executive Director.
Rev. Deborah Haffner Hubbard, who led a Presbyterian Church in Michigan, is the House of Prayer Pastor.

Joining the Bishop and the Hubbards at the front of the church during the installation service were former Mission Pastor Wally Cole and Rev. Jeff Berg of Concordia Lutheran Church in Phoenix, AZ

Following the Installation Service, the congregation participates in the the Share the Peace (aka Exchange of Peace).

The congregation then participates in a variety of rituals including the offering, communion, reading the Unending Prayer and The Lord's Prayer.

We praise you and join the hosts of heaven in their unending hymn:

(In Unison) Holy, holy, holy Lord, Lord God of power and might: Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be thy name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespassed against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen

Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard, who sings and plays guitar, is planning a series of concerts starting in the fall of 2009 at churches and other venues in Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, California.

The free fundraising concerts are to raise awareness about mission projects and the new Mission in Reverse model that the mission is operating under since he arrived in the Spring of 2009.

While still following the original goals of the mission, Rev. Hubbard is taking a respectful and humble approach to the mission's work in the Navajo community.

He believes the purpose of the mission is to minister with the Navajo not for the Navajo.

With the century-long horrors of the Christian boarding lasting to mid 1900s still fresh in elders' minds, Hubbard believes we need to practice healing and reconciliation, not judge people whose path to the divine life might be different than ours.

The Navajo Lutheran Mission is featured in the November 2009 issue of "The Lutheran" magazine, an ELCA national publication.
